Meet Our Speakers

Jaya Chand
Durham University
Jaya is currently a PhD researcher in astronomical instrumentation at Durham University's CfAI group. Her research focuses on developing a flexible, durable, and cost-effective instrument for monitoring atmospheric turbulence to meet increasing demand and expand coverage in ground-based astronomy. She holds an MSci in Astrophysics from UCL. Last year, she worked as a Support Astronomer with the Isaac Newton Group in La Palma. There, she was trained to operate the Isaac Newton Telescope.

Ramneet Bains
University College London
Ramneet is studying Mechanical Engineering with Chemistry at University College London (UCL). She holds a special interest in materials science and mechatronics. During her prior years at UCL, she led a small group to a 1st place win in the UKSEDS National Rocketry Championship 2023. Currently, she is on an industrial placement year at Red Bull Racing (F1).
